The Higo Koshirae is made by Hosokawa Sansai, the feudal lord of the Higo province, todays Kumamoto Prefecture. He designed this Iaito as the practical combination of the of Iai, the art of drawing one's sword and the Sado, the Way of Tea. It is a solid Iaito. The short 2.2 Shaku types were used more often, and also the grip was short. It was made to use it by one hand which made it longer than hitting the enemy by holding it with two hands. Compared to the Edohigo Koshirae, which were more commen at the end of the Bakumatsu (The end of the shogunate), it is a bit different.
Made using a lightweight Zinc/Aluminium Alloy blade, this sword is compliant with Japanese laws relating to imitation swords. Steel swords, with the exception of genuine Japanese made, registered Shinken, are not allowed to be brought to Japan for training purposes. As this sword is made using modern Zinc/Aluminium alloy, it is NOT affected by this restriction and can be brought to and from Japan freely.
